Can I use Photoshop for Logo design?

When it comes to logo designing, I have heard people say adobe illustration is best, I tried using this software once but could not fully understand it. Photoshop was a lot easier for me to use. I believe I should be able to use Photoshop to design a good logo, the key is knowing how to use every tool in Photoshop.

There is no other software as good as photoshop to create logo. Many years ago, I used to use something called Freehand. I am not sure if it is still available.
