Chat boxes

The fashion with forums having a chat boxes are coming down.

With the exception of chat boxes in roleplaying forums, most forums these days have completely gotten rid of the idea of chat boxes for three reasons:
1. Its a burden in the hosting limits
2. People dont use the chat box enough as all of them are busy IRL
3. Adds to the burden of moderation.

What is your opinion?

I don't think chat boxes are always a pain in the neck. For instance, on the SWC forum I don't see that the chat box is being neglected. I also don't see that the chat box is causing posting on other places to be neglected. I don't see that it is a burden on hosting, but I don't really know for sure. Only the owner would know that. I suspect it's not a problem.

Anyway, I think chat boxes add a huge amount of fun to the forum. However, a problem with them is you need some active members, and I don't have that on my religious forum yet.

We have one but it's in the VIP forum so it's away from the main forums page. People just drop messages saying hello etc into it.
