Do you think trap music has watered down the hiphop/rap genre?

It is almost like trap rap has become the order of the day when it comes to contemporary hip hop music compared to the hiphop of the 90s and early 2000s when we used to have pure lyricists in the hip hop genre of music. Do you think trap form of rap has made the hiphop genre to lose its very essence.
