Horror Movies Inspired By True Events

Some horror movies claim that they are inspired by true events, which means these movies are loosely based on paranormal activities. For instance, The Amityville Horror (1979) and The Conjuring (2013) are based on true events. If these movies are actually inspired by true events, we need to believe that ghosts and spirits exist. Do you think these so-called horror movies are actually inspired by true events?

Every time somebody says The Conjuring or The Amityville Horror are based on true events, a part of me has to fight back my need to assert my very, very strong skepticism.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is another of the "Based on a True Story" movies I always feel the need to "Um, actually" about. In real life, something did happen. However, it didn't involve a chainsaw at all. It wasn't really a massacre, and it wasn't in Texas.
