Forum arcades

Have you ever considered the idea of hosting a arcade in your forum?

To me personally, I have never added an arcade to any of my forums because I think they are not suitable for forums. My reasons are:

1. The games are too simple and cant evince much interest in members.
2. Having an arcade means the loading times are way too high
3. It takes up more space compared to conventional no arcade forums restricting my ability to keep the website financially sustainable.

What are your thoughts?

MyBB used to have a really good arcade system. IPB did too. They were popular around 10 years ago. You could play simple flash games, your high scores would be saved and you could compete with other members, it was fun. I wonder why they don't have a good one for XenForo, that would be awesome.

They're good in principle, but... they're on dodgy ground with regard to copyright law.

For games to be compatible, they have to be decompiled for additional code to be added to them. Some of the earlier examples of this are hideous, and essentially DESTROY the original game.

The only way it could work now if it was converted to html 5 and a new developer made one.

There’s also a way to make flash work with ruffle.

That’s okay though. People can have different sorts of avenues to have fun. A forum shouldn’t only be serious business.

Same as chat boxes.

We have one but it's in the VIP forum so doesn't really distract others like on some forums.

Only staff and VIP members can see the chat box on my forum.

What about when your members get burned out on posting? Rather than leaving your site they can go relax in the arcade for a bit then get back to posting.
