How young is too young for horror?

So, controversial topic... how young is too young to allow kids (your own or nephews/nieces etc as in my case) to watch horrors or scary films?

I remember watching some absolutely terrifying movies when I was as young as 4 or 5 years old... clearly had some effect as I remained scared of the dark until I was about 10!

For you, if you have/look after kids, where do you draw the line?

I don't remember when I watched a horror movie for the first time but I think more than the age we need to see the mental strength of kids. My niece is 6 years old and she is interested in horror, and another nice is 12 and yet she is scared.
