How helpful are self help books?

I have really never read a self help book that helped me. This is mainly because the things that we do are not time, place and context neutral. Hence, it would be difficult for anyone to teach us what to do and what not to do without being aware of what we are going through.

The only book which helped me was 'How to Win Every Argument' by UK Interview fame Mehdi Hassan. I dont think it actually qualifies as self help book, but I cant think of anything that really helped me :D

One self help book that I have come to appreciate a lot is 'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill. It provides great lessons on how to have a wealthy mindset, and to cultivate, maintain and grow one's wealth.

Can you bring out some of the points which you adopted from the book and is presently executing in your life and how helpful it was for you in managing wealth?

I am a little skeptic about the book because to me, its rhetoric and not really any concrete way of generating or maintaining wealth.

One thing I particularly found interesting was that the book asks us to act as if we already have that wealth. I dont agree to it because that would be spending more than what we can afford - a surer way to destroy health rather than managing it.
