What Are Your Favorite Ways to Monetize Your Forum

If you are monetizing your forum, what monetization methods do you like to use? Well, Google Adsense is my favorite method because I can earn from ad engagement as well as ad impression. I think selling membership is also good but it is quite difficult to get paying members.

Donations, premium membership, and donation drives.

You can make quite a bit of money from these (Wikipedia does with donations since it's been online) and not have to add annoying ads to your forum in the process.

But you have to build a loyal community for it to work. People have to care about the existence of the community.

Don't you think this is the most difficult thing to do? You might bring in members through ads and marketing but making them remain on your forum active is very difficult.
